Recommended uses for Tire Silk Thread

The following FIVE WEIGHTS of the TIRE brand of silk thread are available: 100 Plus, Machine Twist, Line Stitch, Buttonhole, Quilters' Silk and Metallic.

Showing you the colors of the threads on your computer is not possible because the colors look quite different on different monitors. Therefore we highly recommend that you download this free Adobe Acrobat document, Color Family Listing, and purchase the TIRE Loose End Color Card which includes actual colored threads, for $12.00. With these items you can accurately know what colors you are ordering.

The Color Family Listing link indicates which numbers and names identify the colors available for each thread type. It also lists the thread names and numbers in color families, helping you to select a specific color.

Metallic Thread ( 30 and 50 weight)

Although not a silk thread, the metallics are a wonderful accent thread, particularly in coordination with the other weights and colors of TIRE silk threads..

A superior metallic thread:

The Tire line of metallic threads is engineered for machine work, making them better passing threads than a good deal of other metallic threads on the market. The secret to thier superior performance is strong poly core helping to prevent the 'shredding tendancies' of most metallic's.

The gold and silver metallic threads are available in two different gauges. The Size 1 (50 weight) is very fine and delicate and the Size 3 (30 weight is sliighly heavier).

The secret to working with these metallic's—utilize short lengths for hand work and, when hand or machine stitching. It is the eye of the hand or machine needle that will rub the metallics from the poly core.
