Silk Screening with 'Colorhue' and Shaving CreamTo make a long story short, my friend and colleague Gwen Gibson (a well known polymer clay artist), discovered she could easily easily and quickly transfer her silk screen images to the polymer clay materials with the COLORHUE dyes. Gwen and I began experimenting with shaving cream as a thickener and found that it was an excellent vehicle to move the color through the silk screens onto the silk fabric. Up until now the art of transferring images to fabrics has been a rather complicated process, due to the complexity of the more traditional silk screening processes. As with any new process, we are continuing to discover exciting new ways to transfer color through the silk screen onto fabrics, utilizing our instant setting dyes and paints. We have just published the first of a series of processes/project booklets entitled 'THE SILK EXPERIENCE Series One'. This first issue (published by Thing Japanese and edited by Carla Peery) will feature 'Silk Screening the Easy Way'. The Shaving Cream Process If you wish to experiment yourself with the new process:
YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY TO A GREAT ADVENTURE What is Colorhue? • How is Colorhue Applied • What Fabrics does Colorhue Dye? • Tips for Dying Large Pieces of Fabric • Silk Screening with Shaving Cream |
