What is the difference between Silk Ribbon and Pre-cut Bias Silk Ribbon ?The silk ribbons and bias are available in one color, natural. Color is easily added with the instant set Colorhue dye.Silk ribbon and pre-cut bias silkribbon bias are completely different in their performance and uses. Silk ribbon is woven on a special narrow tape loom the provides a beaded selvage. The plain weave of the silk ribbon has little or no elasticity. Our exclusively produced pre-cut Bias Silk Ribbon has been cut from silk charmuese fabric that has been bias rolled, then cut into thick wedges. If you have ever tried to cut a perfect width of bias from satin silk fabric, you will appreciate the consistent cuts of this pre-cut bias. Because of the construction of the long roll of bias, there will be nearly invisible silk thread seaming every two yards of the bias. These special T.J. precut bias are attached with silkthread, allowing for easy dyeing processes. The charmuese weave of the Pre-cut Bias Silk Ribbon is an elegant fabric with a shiny face and a backing of a dull crepe weave. The reversible aspect makes the bias more adaptable to many uses. All of the bias widths are cut to fit the bias tape pressing tools that aid in making a finished bias tape. Because of the stretchy properties of the Pre-cut Bias, it lends itself to innumerable finishing techniques used in garment/wedding gown construction and home decor projects. Welting and finish edging of many types, requires the bias to stretch for easy shaping around corners and curves. The silk bias can also be handled as a ribbon, making wonderful decorative elements for all types of projects. The Pre-cut Bias can be stabilized with fabric fuseables or liquid stabilizers to stiffen the bias fro machine embroidery, embellishing, and for easier handling. Since our bias ribbon is the natural silkcocoon color, the bias (using the instant set COLORHUE silk dyes) can be dyed to match other fabric colors or create new and fresh blends of hues. Also, the silk bias, silk ribbons and silk threads can be dyed, at the same time, allowing wonderful color blending all of the silk notions. The Pre-cut Bias is available in 5 yard lengths or the larger spool. Although the larger spool of bias seem expensive, the single yardage prices are very reasonable in comparison to wide ribbons. When coloring the bias yourself, only single rolls of bias are needed and a bias supply is readily at hand. Samples of all widths of our bias can be seen by purchasing the Silk Ribbon/Bias Sampler.
