The NEW bonded SILK BATTING by Hobbs

Their new bonded silk batting was introduced to the market this past spring and Hobbs manufacturer it right in the USA.

Just what is the new Hobbs bonded silk batting ???

Hobbs has successfully managed to control the 90 % raw silk fibers and 10% polyester fiber into a type of ''fused fabric', that will have many diffrent and interesting uses. The small percentage of polyester fibers have been added for manufacturing stability.

The bonded batting can be divided into two segments and the delicate. thin but strong layer can be utilized for many uses.

We carry the Silk Rolls (96 inches wide), order from us by the yard.

How is it different than other raw silk fibers we have experienced in the past ??

Formally we have had 'silk caps' or other types of sheet silk fibers (basically used for padding purposes and known as miwata in Japan). Unfortunately, these untreated silk fibers were difficult to keep in consistant layers and difficult to manage without wearing gloves. Hobbs has solved those problems by lightly bonding both sides of the silk fibers for better performance and manageabilty.

Advantages of the new Bonded Silk Batting:

  • Maintaines its loft
  • Light as a feather
  • Possesses an an 'airy' touch
  • Will outlast other natural fibers
  • Warm in winter, cool in summer
  • Light but strong
  • Has wonderful draping and moldable qualities
  • Is a dyeable fiber
  • It is washable, can also be dry cleaned
  • Accepts sewing threads easily (especially silk thread)
