Adding Digital Printing to your Silk Arsenal![]() We are always looking for exciting, easy ways to expand our collection of embellishments techniques on the silks.Imaging SILK FABRIC SHEETS from the printerThe new 'silk fabric sheets' developed for accepting colored inks from printers, has given us a new opportunity for 'color embellishing' silks. These sheets have been pretreated with special chemistry, to assure you that the inks will be accepted by the silk fibers. There are 'do it yourself' methods of attaching silk fabric to paper, but we suggest the commercially produced fabric sheets for consistant performance and your convenience. We have experiemented with using the silk digital prints and find them to be very compatible with the Colorhue dyes and the Lumiere/Neopaque paints. The black and white printed image can be be easily colored with various applications of the Colorhue dyes and Lumiere/Neopaque/ paints. Even colored images produced on the silk fabric sheets can be quickly and easily overdyed with the Colorhue for tonal differences or even color enhancing the silks designs, themselves. As we develop more dyeing and painting processes with the digital images, we will keep you informed. The pillow illustrated above gives an example of the use of the 'silk digital sheet'. Val copied and printed on a piece of silk charmuese this wonderful black and white image of an 'Oriental Waif', taken from one of her fabulous old book collections. In turn, I lightly over- dyed the silk and stylized the image with appropriate types of silk, 'colored' to complete the entire pillow design.
